The partnership, Underhill & Underhill, formed in 1912, operates to this day - providing Cadastral Land Survey Services in British Columbia, Canada.

In the 1950's Underhill Engineering Ltd.(UEL) was established to meet a growing need for Civil Engineering Services. Over the years the business of UEL became increasingly focused on Surveying (Engineering, Geodetic, GPS, General Consulting), and Mapping (Cadastral, Topographic, GIS, and AM/FM). The industry we now find ourselves in has come to be known as Geomatics. In 1998 UEL was renamed Underhill Geomatics Ltd to better reflect the focus of the business.

UGL has a reputation for excellence in serving clients throughout the World. We have expanded our scope of services and technical capabilities to better serve our clients needs. The outstanding reputation of the firm is a testament to our founding principle of using leading edge technology to provide a high quality product.

UGL's pioneering efforts in the development and application of Geomatics technology are numerous. UGL was an early adopter of a number of technologies, which are now commonplace.

These include: Electronic Distance Measurement(EDM) in the 1950's, Digital Computing in the early 1960's (vacuum tubes - no less!), development and applications of Computer Aided Design(CAD) and Engineering Software in the 1970's, application of Global Positioning Technology(GPS) to Geodetic and Mapping Surveys in the mid 80's, and consulting related to Automated Mapping/Facilities Management (AM/FM), and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) in the late 1980's.
